R v VON EINEM 1984 - 'Abbreviated' Valerie Bon Darenko XN by the Crown:
Q. In July 1983 you were the owner of a Ford Falcon Sedan registered number SXJ257.
A. Yes.
Q. Did you buy it from Mr Von Einem on 16 June 1983?
A. Yes.
Q. Did you buy it in response to seeing an advertisement in the vehicles for sale section of the Advertiser on that day?
A. Yes.
Q. You rang the accused and after a conversation found out the address and went to have a look.
A. Yes.
Q. How much was the agreed price of sale?
A. $2,600 but we settled on $2,200.
Q. Did you notice anything about the boot of the vehicle?
A. It had a fresh black paint in it. It still was a bit wet and I asked him why and he said it had a leaky esky in it and had a bit of surface rust so he painted it.
Q. On 11 October 1983 the vehicle was purchased from you be the South Australian police.
A. Yes.
Q. Did the accused say that it was a company car?
A. Yes, he said that it was a company car and he bought it off the company and got another one.
Q. Did you see another car there? A silver Toyota?
A. Yes. It was parked in the driveway.
Q. Do you remember you told us about talking to him about you being Russian and that he was going overseas?
A. Yes.
Q. Did he say that was the reason he wanted to sell the car to raise a bit of money for his overseas trip?
A. I don’t remember.
