R v VON EINEM 1984 - 'Abbreviated' Denis St Denis XN
Q. You have been a hair dresser for over 20 years.
A. Yes.
Q. Did you work in a hairdressing salon in Grenfell Street, Adelaide?
A. Yes.
Q. You also do hair for friends in your home.
A. That’s right.
Q. I think you live at Hazelwood park.
A. Yes.
Q. You know the accused, Mr Von Einem?
A. Yes I do.
Q. How long have you known him?
A. 15 years or so.
Q. Would you regard yourself a fairly close friend of Mr Von Einem?
A. Yes.
Q. Have you been doing Mr Von Einem’s hair for some time?
A. Yes.
Q. By that I mean on a regular basis.
A. Yes.
Q. For about how long have you been attending to his hair on a regular basis? A. About 5 years.
Q. In June 1983, I think you attended to his hair on Monday 6 June 1983.
A. Yes.
Q. At that time did he have a regular monthly appointment?
A. Yes.
Q. What night of the week was that?
A. Tuesday. 9 p.m.
Q. Is there any reason why on 6 June it was done on that Monday?
A. I was going on holidays the next day.
Q. 9 p.m. Monday? At home?
A. Yes.
Q. When he came on Monday 6 June, did you tint his hair?
A. Yes.
Q. Now the natural colour is what, fairly dark but going grey?
A. Yes, he has been going grey since he was 16. But he always dyed it so you wouldn’t see it.
Q. How long did the hair appointment take?
A. About one and a half to two hours.
Q. I take it he was your only client those nights.
A. No. At the same time, my cousin always came to have her hair done. She came one and a half hours earlier.
Q. They weren’t there together?
A. No, they overlapped roughly by about 20 minutes.
Q. On 23 January 1984 you handed to Detective Ryan a sample of the peroxide that you used on Mr Von Einem.
A. Yes.
Q. And you put a sample of 20 volume peroxide in the container.
A. Yes.
Q. Did Mr Von Einem complain of feeling sick or having the flu or feeling as if he was aching in the limbs?
A. I couldn’t remember.
Q. Anyway, this cousin, that is a lady who was there?
A. Yes.
Q. She is a lady of about 50.
A. That’s right.
Q. I think your mum is there too. She lives with you?
A. Yes.
Q. And generally the four of you would be there at the same time for at least a period of time.
A. We are all there together for about an hour in between both of them.
